Tosca's heady blend of intrigue, lust and revenge has made it one of the best-loved operas of all time. The passionate opera singee who is prepared to risk all for the man she loves is played by Julie Unwin, a popular Alice in ETO's production of Falstaff last year. Olivier award nominee Tim Caroll directs this political thriller, set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, in which a handful of idealists are pitted against the might of the totaltarian state. Noel Davies, conductor of ETO's acclaimed South Bank Award nominated Spring 2005 production Mary, Queen of Scots and veteran of the Royal Opera and the New York Met, returns to conduct.
